SQ Employee Newsletter - June 2024
The Goal is Perfection
Safety, just like quality inspection, strives to be perfect. The challenge is that no matter if we have been perfect, the last 10,000 times, we must be “perfect” the next time or we fail. That is a very hard standard to meet, yet we do it. We do it through a process of Standardized Work. We learned from our past mistakes and have developed Best Practices to remind us to do our work using the habits that get us closer to our perfect goal. Our safety reminders appear at the beginning of every work instruction, we point out what the proper PPE is for the project and how to wear it correctly. Stop Think Act is not just a phrase, it is a process. When we develop and follow the process of stopping before we take a step or put our hand down to think; is this movement safe? These tiny acts happen thousands of times a day for each of us. To be successful at the Stop Think Act, we must develop a habit of how we go through our day.
In James Clear’s book, Atomic Habits, he writes, “You do not rise to the level of your goals, you fall to the level of your systems.” He continues, “…an atomic habit refers to a tiny change, a marginal gain, a 1 percent improvement. But atomic habits are not just any old habit, however small. They are little habits that are part of a larger system. Just as atoms are the building blocks of molecules, atomic habits are the building blocks of remarkable results.
The Safety Team challenges each of us to build the atomic habits of safety. Take personal responsibility for your safety and those around you. Stop and think before you step, ask “Have I been trained to do what I am about to do safely? Am I following the work instructions exactly or am I rushing? Every accident starts with an unsafe act, then afterward, it is easy to see that not doing it or doing it in a safe manner would have resulted in the accident being prevented. Our safety is built on the atomic habit of choosing safe behaviors.
Yard Landscaping Contest Reminder
Reminder to Unleash Your Green Thumb and join the Ultimate Yard / Landscaping Contest!
Entering the contest is as easy as a walk in the park. Simply snap some stunning photos of your yard or landscaping masterpiece and email them to sqnewsletter@stratospherequality.com by the extended deadline date of July 15th, 2024. Don’t forget to include your name, contact information, and a brief description highlighting what makes your yard or landscaping design stand out from the rest.
Once all the entries are in, our panel of judges will have the difficult task of selecting the winner. The chosen champion will not only receive bragging rights as the reigning Yard & Landscaping virtuoso but will also be featured in a later edition of our newsletter, gaining well-deserved recognition for their green-fingered genius. The winner will also receive a prize, that is to be determined.
So, what are you waiting for? It’s time to turn your outdoor oasis into a work of art and show the world what you’re made of!
Employee Spotlight: Bruce Lunsey
Introducing Bruce Lunsey, Project Supervisor with SQ’s Indiana office. Bruce was born and raised in Kentucky but moved to Fort Wayne in 2018. When Bruce isn’t working, he enjoys spending time with his loving husband and his pet ferret Oz. Bruce finds peace in reading books and manga. He also enjoys watching anime and playing video games.
Bruce started with SQ in January 2021 as a Quality Inspector after applying for a posting found on Indeed. In October 2021, Bruce received a promotion to Team Leader and in December he received another promotion to Project Supervisor. Bruce also assists his team with scheduling as needed. Before starting with SQ he worked as a Customer Service Representative in the finance sector, helping customers with their retirement accounts.
Bruce enjoys working in a fast-paced setting filled with positive and uplifting energy!
The camaraderie Bruce has developed with his team is part of the reason he enjoys working with SQ. He greatly appreciates and commends the mentorship he has received from his fellow co-workers and colleagues.
Bruce understands the amount of information given on the first day can be overwhelming and difficult to retain all at once. Because of this Bruce encourages all newcomers to ask questions and not be afraid.
If Bruce had a magic wand, he would address economic issues comprehensively due to their widespread impact. While money is not synonymous with happiness, it significantly facilitates daily life and societal functioning.
